When England was in India, they experienced problems with the Pritchett bullet due to the hot conditions they experienced. The Pritchett worked admirable in Europe as climatic conditions were vastly different.
After long deliberation, in England, Edward Boxer proposed the .550 dia projectile which enabled easier loading in these conditions and was used until the introduction of the Snider Rifle.
