The .450-400 Nitro Express 3" is a part of the family of Nitro cases with a .405" - .411" calibre cartridge cases. They are rimmed, bottle-necked cases which were originally intended for single-shot and double-barrel rifles. There are multiple variants of the .450-400 Nitro cartridge as variations existed between each manufacturer for each cartridge length. The lengths of the cartridges ranged from 3.25 inches to 2.625 inches in case length. The .450-400 Nitro Express 3" was designed by Jeffery in 1902. Developed to be shorter than other .450-400 cases because of reports of cartridge cases sticking in the rifle chamber. This cartridge is adequate for hunting any African game including most dangerous game.
